French side put defeat at Wigan firmly behind them

Catalan Dragons moved to the top of Super League with a comprehensive 40-18 win over the Salford City Reds. A week after surrendering their unbeaten start to the new season in a tame display at Wigan, the Dragons looked much more their old selves on home turf. Stuart Howarth was first over the line for the Reds but that merely served to spark the hosts into life and they responded with four tries in the space of 15 minutes. Vincent Duport was first over with the first of three tries before Scott Dureau made amends for missing with the extras by running in a second try three minutes later which he duly converted. Damien Blanch went over at the corner for 14-6 and Thomas Bosc added a fourth try on 27, although Dureau was wayward with the conversion again. Leon Pryce bagged his first try in Dragons colours moments before the interval and a second for Duport on 53 stretched the Perpignan side's lead to 26 points. A lapse in concentration allowed Josh Veivers and Gareth Owen to run in two tries in as many minutes, but any hopes of a comeback were snuffed out with Duport's hat-trick try and Daryl Millard ran in the Dragons eighth try at the death.
