Wigan Warriors have launched an investigation into an alleged fracas involving two of their players.
Greater Manchester Police have confirmed they were called to an incident in Wigan town centre last Friday night and that damage was caused to a gym.
No arrests have been made and no players have been identified, but the Super League club say they are conducting their own inquiries.
With Wigan chairman Ian Lenagan and fellow director Kris Radlinski both out of the country, it was left to marketing director Simon Collinson to issue a brief statement before the start of coach Shaun Wane's weekly press conference at the club's training ground at Orrell on Tuesday afternoon.
"We are carrying out an internal investigation and I would ask that no questions are put to Shaun that might compromise or prejudice those investigations," Collinson said.
"As soon as the investigations are complete, we will then issue a full statement."
The incident is thought to have followed a day out by the Wigan players at Haydock Races the day after they beat Castleford 33-26 in Super League.
A police spokesman said: "We were called at 8.45pm on Friday after a disturbance at a gym on Chapel Lane.
"Two men had entered the gym and one had caused damage to the building.
"Officers attended and spoke to all parties. Inquiries are ongoing but no arrests have been made."
Asked if the incident had caused any difficulties in his preparation for Friday's match, Wane said: "It's another working day for me. We've had a fantastic day and we're just getting ready for our team run on Thursday."
