Saints forward damages hand nerves after brush accident

St Helens loose forward Jon Wilkin will remain on the sidelines for up to a month after suffering a freak hand injury. Wilkin, who was set for to return from a calf injury he picked up while training with England, suffered nerve damage when a yard brush snapped while he was using it. Saints head coach Royce Simmons has confirmed that the fresh setback will rule him out for at least three weeks. "He was sweeping up and the broom snapped and ripped through his hand," Simmons said. "He did not damage any tendon but he did damage a lot of nerves so he will have to play with it heavily strapped when he returns. He's gone for another three to four weeks." Scrum-half Kyle Eastmond has still not been included in the 19-man squad for Friday's clash against Hull KR despite his recent suspension being lifted. Instead Eastmond will play for the Under-20s, with Simmons sticking with new half-back pair Jonny Lomax and Lee Gaskell. Winger Francis Meli is facing three weeks out with a hamstring injury, while Paul Clough and Leon Pryce remain on the injury list with shoulder and groin problems respectively.
