Former Warrington and Hull KR forward Tyrone McCarthy has signed for Salford from Australian club St George Illawarra.
The 29-year-old joins the double-chasing Red Devils ahead of Friday's signing deadline meaning he will be available for the Super 8s.
"Tyrone is a really big signing for us," said Salford coach Ian Watson. "Not only will he bring ability and experience to the side, but also leadership, he is a bloke that leads with his actions.
"His attitude and commitment to play for his team-mates is first class and that is exactly what we need at this stage of the season," he added. "Players like Tyrone will be a massive part of any success we will have as a team."
McCarthy, who signed a two-year deal with the Dragons at the end of 2015, is Salford's second major signing for the Super 8s following the capture of former New Zealand Test winger Manu Vatuvei.
Warrington-born McCarthy was part of the Wolves' Challenge Cup-winning team in 2009 in only his third senior appearance and went on to clinch a second winners' medal at Wembley three years later before heading over to Australia.
He returned to Super League from Queensland Cup side Northern Pride in 2015, joining Hull KR and, in the absence of injured captain Terry Campese, led the team out at Wembley for the Challenge Cup final defeat against Leeds.
