Super League duo Salford and Widnes enjoyed comfortable victories to book their place in the last 16 of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup with routine away wins over League One opposition.

Centre Josh Griffin scored a hat-trick and Jake Bibby and Robert Lui both touched down twice in Salford's 50-14 victory over part-timers Hunslet at the South Leeds Stadium.

The Red Devils suffered a surprise defeat to Leigh in the fifth round last year but were never in danger of suffering the same fate.

They never looked back after scoring three tries in the first 10 minutes, although Hunslet battled manfully to the end and scored tries through Jack Lee, James Duckworth and George Flanagan.

Widnes ran in 12 tries against unbeaten League One leaders Rochdale to book their place in Thursday's sixth-round draw with a 62-6 victory at Spotland.

The part-timers led 6-4 until the Vikings hit their stride with Kevin Brown and Chris Bridge grabbing hat-tricks.

The winning margin would have been greater had Bridge not been off-target with four of six first-half conversion attempts. But he still finished with 26 points from three tries and seven goals.

Widnes ran in four tries - two either side of half-time - when Rochdale were down to 12 men with Jo Taira in the sin bin for a high tackle on Jordan Johnstone.

Ed Barber scored four tries as Championship club Halifax swept aside amateur club Castleford Lock Lane 80-4 at the Shay.

Barber and Gareth Potts both touched down twice before half-time and, with Ben Johnston, Jacob Fairbank and Connor Robinson also scoring tries, Halifax led 40-0 at the break

Johnson added a second towards the end and there were also tries for Sam Smeaton, Gareth Moore, Andy Bracek, Miles Greenwood and Luke Ambler while Steve Tyrer kicked 12 goals to see him hit his 1,000th point for the club.

Karl Robinson scored Lock Lane's only points with a close-range try early in the second half.
