Ah Van: Grabbed a personal haul of 18 points against Harlequins

Eighteen points from Patrick Ah Van helped Bradford Bulls chalk up their second straight Super League win with a 30-16 success at struggling Harlequins.

The Samoan winger scored two tries and booted five goals as ninth-placed Bulls won away from home for the first time since February.

But it piled on the misery for beleaguered Harlequins who crashed to their sixth straight defeat.

Quins half back Karl Pryce went over twice against his old club, but his efforts were not enough to halt an increasingly desperate run for the London club.

However they had most of the early possession and deservedly went ahead after seven minutes when Chad Randall fed Pryce, who bulldozed his way through from a few metres out. Luke Gale missed a difficult conversion.

Sprint

The visitors hit back with a good spell of their own and a superb break by Ben Jeffries allowed Ah Van to sprint clear to score a try he converted himself.

Two minutes before half-time, the Bulls stretched their advantage when Shad Royston spotted a gap down the left and shrugged off Chris Riley's tackle to score under the posts.

Ah Van kicked the goal to give Bradford a 12-4 lead and as the players came off for half-time both sets of supporters were hoping for more quality after the restart.

Less than two minutes into the second half Bulls struck again when Jeffries found Ah Van, who had the simple task of touching down in the right-hand corner.

It was a big setback for Quins but they rallied as three Bradford players were needed to stop Pryce after a strong run down the left wing.

Hope

Ah Van extended the lead to 18-4 when he kicked a penalty before Quins hit back from the restart.

Danny Ward took up possession before off-loading to Karl Temata, who sprinted through the gap to score and Gale's conversion gave Harlequins renewed hope.

But then came a moment that sums up their current plight as Gale fumbled Pryce's awful pass backwards before his offload was intercepted by Elliott Whitehead, who cantered home unopposed.

Pryce went some way to redeeming himself when he took Randall's pass before swivelling away from his tackler to touch down and Gale converted from out wide.

However, the Bulls were to have the last word a minute from time when Heath L'Estrange passed inside to Andy Lynch, who plunged over under the posts to allow Ah Van to complete his haul.
