International Origin: England's first-half blitz sees off Exiles in Warrington

The hosts went scoreless in the first quarter of the International Origin contest before producing a purple patch to open up a 24-0 lead at the break.

However any thoughts of putting the pick of Super League's overseas talent to the sword were dashed by the brave Exiles, who touched down twice in the second half themselves to restore some pride in the fourth game of the series.

Leroy Cudjoe's second try rounded out the scoring late on, giving a positive end to a night that showed there is still work to do for England coach Steve McNamara and his group of players ahead of this year's World Cup.

Already shorn of their NRL talent, their cause was not helped by injuries to skipper Kevin Sinfield and key forward Gareth Ellis, who was stretchered off with a back problem.

Attacking abilities

Still, they did show off their attacking abilities in spurts, starting with Zak Hardaker - playing at centre rather than his usual position of full-back - breaking the deadlock when he collected a grubber from the boot of Sam Tomkins.

The rest of England's tries were long-range strikes, starting with one for James Roby that came about following a huge hit by Cudjoe on Brett Hodgson, the Huddersfield centre dislodging the ball from the hands of the Exiles skipper and allowing Sinfield to set his team-mate running free from 80 metres out.

Cudjoe himself scored the third, a superb dummy fooling the exposed Hodgson after England had created space down the right by working a runaround between Richie Myler, preferred to Rangi Chase in the starting XIII, and Ellis.

Tomkins was the next to cross, Sinfield setting up the reigning Man of Steel - who had met the actor Henry Cavill, who stars as Superman in the new movie 'Man of Steel', during the week - with a burst from dummy half after switching to hooker to accommodate the arrival of Chase from the bench.

The only impact the Exiles made in the first 40 minutes came courtesy of an accidental elbow from Travis Burns that split open Ben Westwood, though that would change after the interval.

Rather than roll over the overseas band of merry men instead staged a comeback bid, scoring two tries in the space of four minutes after Tomkins had seen one chalked off by the video official for obstruction.

Mickey Paea slipped out of Hardaker's grasp to barge his way over on the right and a well-timed pass from the evergreen Steve Menzies put Warrington winger Joel Monaghan in at the corner for a try on his home ground.

Had it not been for some stoic defence, most notably on stand-off Burns when he twice threatened the line, England may well have faced a nervous finish.

Instead they were able to end on a high when Cudjoe picked off an errant pass to race clear and complete his brace, Josh Charnley knocking over the final conversion with Sinfield nursing a suspected dislocated thumb.
