In depth

Verdict

Osolomio can give weight and a beating to Sporting Gesture, with Campli expected to make his presence felt without being good enough. Osolomio has gone up nearly two-stone in the ratings since last year, but still looks capable of winning again, especially if allowed to dominate. Those tactics have served Alan Swinbank's charge well at Thirsk and Ripon already this season, and in a small field like this, Neil Callan should be able to force the pace as he likes on the four-year-old. His main rival appears to be Sporting Gesture who has ground conditions very much in his favour here. Like the selection, Mick Easterby's veteran has yet to score over this trip, but the way that he kept on when runner-up at Beverley last week suggests that he will not lack for stamina. Of the remainder, bumper winner Campli will at least stay, but faces two better rivals here, with our preference being for Osolomio.
