Great Britain's men's curling team face a play-off for a place in the Winter Olympic semi-finals after defeat against the United States.

Kyle Smith's men knew a win would be enough to send them automatically through to the last four but a poor display saw them suffer a 10-4 loss after just eight ends.

The result left Great Britain in a three-way tie for third place alongside USA and Switzerland, with the Americans sent through on account of their better head-to-head record between the three teams.

Smith, whose side finished with a record of five wins and four defeats from the round-robin format, said: "We didn't create enough chances and they were sharper than us.

"The ice was running a bit quicker today than it has in the last couple of games and I certainly wasn't sharp enough on that and missed a few slack ones.

"We've still got a chance of making the semis so it's kind of the same situation we were in today - win and we're in - so we'll be back and we'll be playing better."
