Great Britain's record-breaking Olympic performance provided the British public with many moments of pure elation. But which were among the most discussed on Twitter? Scroll down to find out!

From Adam Peaty's world record-breaking victory to win GB their first gold medal of the Games, to Jason Kenny's sixth Olympic title to equal Sir Chris Hoy's British Olympic record, there was a real sense of pride in the nation.

Laura Trott became the most successful female British Olympian after winning two gold medals to double her gold medal tally.

Her tweet was the third most retweeted post by a Team GB athlete when she took to social media after her and Kenny became cycling's golden couple, racking up 10 gold medals between them.

And while Tom Daley won bronze on the diving platform, he picked up silver on social media after this tweet was the second most retweeted post by a British athlete during the Olympics.

But it was Team GB's first gold medallist Adam Peaty whose post was to be the most retweeted tweet during the Olympics.
