Sally Conway has won a bronze medal for Great Britain in the women's -70kg judo competition at the Rio Olympics.

The Scot sealed victory over Austria's Bernadette Graf with a yuko to add another medal to Team GB's growing tally in Brazil.

Conway had endured bitter disappointment at London 2012, suffering a last-16 defeat in the same category, and she had earlier fallen short in the 2016 semi-final as Colombia's Yuri Alvear won with a waza-ri.

But the 29-year-old from Edinburgh would not be denied a medal four years later and pulled off the decisive throw midway through the contest.

Graf's desperate attempts to respond were resisted by Conway, who raised her hands above her head in delight at the end.

Earlier Conway had needed just 57 seconds to defeat Turkey's Houda Miled by Ippon and repeated this feat against France's Gevrise Emane.

Conway would complete a hat-trick of wins by Ippon against Linda Bolder of Israel to set up the semi-final with Alvear.
