Phil Dawson kicked five field goals, including the game clincher from 56 yards, to give Cleveland a 29-27 win over Buffalo.
Cleveland claim narrow triumph at slumping Buffalo
Phil Dawson's late field goal gave the Cleveland Browns a 29-27 win over the free falling Buffalo Bills at Ralph Wilson Stadium on Monday night.
Dawson was on target with a career-long 56-yard effort with one minute and 44 seconds remaining to seal the victory.
His opposite number Rian Lindell had the chance to win it for the Bills but his 47-yard attempt with 38 seconds left sailed wide of the uprights.
Dawson kicked five field goals in total, a 15-point haul that was supplemented by touchdowns on the ground from Joshua Cribbs and Jerome Harrison.
Cribbs went in from two yards in early in the second quarter, while Harrison's 72-yard effort at the start of the final quarter gave the Browns a 23-13 advantage.
Kick return
The Bills hit back to take the lead with two quick touchdowns of their own - Leodis McKelvin returned a kick-off all the way from 98 yards and quarterback Trent Edwards took it in himself from one yard - but Dawson had the last word.
The result improves the Browns' record to 4-6 and keeps their slim play-off hopes alive, while the Bills - who started season with four straight wins - are now 5-5 and bottom of the AFC East.
"It doesn't feel like a free fall, at least not to me," said Buffalo coach Dick Jauron.
"It's not where we want to be, we'd like to be 10-0, we'd like to have no losses.
"But the 5-5 record will keep us in it and we'll just keep playing as hard as we can."
