NFL: Jaxson de Ville writes to PM David Cameron

Jacksonville Jaguars mascot Jaxson de Ville has taken a first step into the world of British politics by contacting the British Prime Minister to request a day off for Jags fans across the UK this 4th July.

Jacksonville are regular visitors to the UK and are playing at Wembley again this autumn, with their fan numbers growing as a result, so the team are looking more and more across the pond for fan activity.

The mascot provide huge entertainment at Wembley, absailing off the roof down to the pitch and later 'streaking' across the field.

While fans in the US celebrate Independence Day, in the UK fans are set for yet another day of work – leading Jags mascot to step in and use the special relationship between both nations to fight for the right of all Jags fans who live or work in the United Kingdom to join in the celebrations.

Jaxson has personally written to David Cameron to suggest an ‘EverBank Holiday’, named in honour of the Jaguars’ EverBank Field home, for 4th July just 238 years after the original Independence Day. The Florida-based Jacksonville Jaguars have their own special relationship with the UK, having agreed to play one regular season home game at Wembley Stadium through 2016.

Speaking from his office in EverBank Field, Jaxson said: “We love visiting our second home in London and our fans across the UK are awesome.  So, when I heard of their plight ahead this Friday, I decided that I had to intervene.

“All Jags fans should get Independence Day off. Apparently they have ‘bank holidays’ on that side of the pond, so I’ve requested special dispensation from Dave to see if he can grant an ‘EverBank Holiday’.

“The special relationship that the US and UK share should absolutely be extended to the Jaguars’ UK fans. The NFL games in London bring a huge amount of revenue into the British economy so surely one day off for our incredible fans in the UK can’t hurt, right?”

The Jaguars’ next visit to London will be for an 84,000 sell-out clash with the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday 9th November at Wembley Stadium.

The letter reads:

Dear Dave,

I’m sure you remember me from my last visit to London but, just in case, my name is Jaxson de Ville and I am the NFL’s no.1 mascot for Florida’s Jacksonville Jaguars. As the Jaguars are playing one game in London each year we’re taking a keen interest in your country’s current affairs.  It has come to my attention that, whilst we’ll all be celebrating our nation’s Independence Day, 4th July is a working day in our second home across the pond, meaning our UK fans will be chained to their desks. What’s up with that!?

I have to stand up for our UK fans and so I’m intervening to say how about an EverBank Holiday for that Friday (named after our stadium ‘EverBank Field’)?

We at the Jags are well behind the United States’ special relationship with the UK so we want to share the Independence Day celebrations with our pie and mash eating cousins. I’m thinking less red coats, more Hawaiian shirts – let your people get out there and enjoy the sun! You guys barely see it after all.

We’ll be heading to London on November 9 to take on the Dallas Cowboys at Wembley Stadium.  I’m sure you’ve already bought your ticket. We couldn’t be more grateful to the support of our UK fans and, don’t forget, the NFL International Series games bring a huge amount of revenue to the UK economy. So come on – surely one day off for our incredible fans can’t hurt?

I know you’re going to do the right thing big man.

Yours in Football (not soccer),

Jaxson de Ville
