Pro Bowl guard surplus to requirements in New York
The New York Jets have cut nine-time Pro Bowl guard Alan Faneca despite owing him $5.2 million in guaranteed money for 2010.
Faneca, 33, spent the first 10 years of his NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers before arriving in New York as a free agent in 2008.
He was a key member of an offensive line that helped the Jets have the top-ranked running attack in the NFL last season.
Vladimir Ducasse, the Jets' second-round pick in the 2010 draft, and Matt Slauson, a sixth-round selection in 2009, will compete to replace Faneca.
