The Denver Broncos will let linebacker Brandon Marshall leave to become a free agent after declining an option on his four-year deal, according to multiple reports.
The 29-year-old, who signed with the Broncos in 2016, had two years remaining on his $32m contract and was set to make base salaries of $6.5m in 2019 and $7m in 2020. The Broncos would face a $4m cap hit should they release Marshall.
A fifth-round pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2012, Marshall spent six of his seven seasons with the Broncos, including their Super Bowl championship team in 2015.
He had an impressive season in 2017, making 106 tackles in 16 matches, but played just 11 times and made 42 tackles in 2018, as a knee injury affected his season.
Marshall appeared to confirm his exit on his official Twitter account by saying: "Much love for Broncos country. Still not over yet, but being injured two out of the last three years after the Super Bowl killed me. But that's life. I'll land on my feet as I always do."
