Arizona Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson has apologised for requesting a mid-season trade and reaffirmed his commitment to the franchise for next season.
The 28-year-old asked to leave the Cardinals in October after a slow start to the season left the team 1-6, but Peterson soon backtracked and claimed he would be around for "years to come".
Peterson's current contract runs through to the 2020 season, and he now seems committed to seeing out that deal.
Speaking at a pro-am golf event at TPC Scottsdale, Peterson said: "I just want to apologise to everybody for asking for that trade in the middle of the season. I'm here to stay, baby."
Peterson's announcement follows the news that veteran wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald will return for his 16th season in Arizona.
The Cardinals ended the 2018 season with a disappointing 3-13 record, but Peterson is hopeful that things will improve this year.
"I think we're definitely moving in the right direction," Peterson told the franchise's official website on Wednesday. "I'm happy with the decisions that ownership made this offseason."
