Mike Zimmer will return as head coach of the Minnesota Vikings next season.

NFL Network reported Monday Zimmer met with team officials and was informed the Vikings plan to retain him for 2019.

Zimmer led the Vikings to the NFC championship game in 2017, but Minnesota lost to the Philadelphia Eagles, who went on to win the Super Bowl.

With high expectations and a big-ticket free agent - Kirk Cousins - at quarterback, the Vikings missed the playoffs with an 8-7-1 record.

The Vikings were 1-6 against 2018 playoff teams.
