Larry Fitzgerald appears to have put an end to speculation about his retirement by telling the Arizona Cardinals’ new head coach Steve Wilks that he will play in 2018.
The 34-year-old's future in the NFL was uncertain at the end of last season, as the Cardinals went 8-8, with many predicting that the wide receiver would announce an end to his career.
Fitzgerald played in every game in 2017 and equalled his record for receptions made in one season (109).
The 13-year veteran will now have the chance to make up the 390 yards needed to move second in the league's all-time receiving list.
Wilks, who took charge of the NFC West franchise last month, told local Arizona radio channel 98.7FM: "Larry mentioned to me last night that he's coming back for the 2018 season. He's totally committed, those are his words. We're ecstatic to have him part of the Arizona Cardinals."
The Cardinals' quarterback last season, Carson Palmer, brought an end to his 15-year NFL career in January, just two days after head coach Bruce Arians had made the same decision.
