Clete Blakeman was involved in controversy during the play-offs when an overtime coin toss did not go to plan

Clete Blakeman will lead the seven-man team of officials for Super Bowl 50 just weeks after a coin toss blunder.

The experienced official attempted to flip the coin at the start of overtime in the recent play-off game between the Arizona Cardinals and the Green Bay Packers but was left red-faced when it failed to spin.

But he has again been selected to head the officiating crew for the Super Bowl between the Denver Broncos and the Carolina Panthers at Levi's Stadium on February 7, live on Sky Sports.

He has officiated five playoff games, including two divisional playoffs, and was the alternate ref for last season's AFC Championship game between the New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts, which led to the infamous 'Deflategate' scandal.

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady eventually had a four-game ban relating to 'Deflategate' lifted by a federal judge.
