Indianapolis running back Trent Richardson did not travel with the team for Sunday’s AFC Championship game against the New England Patriots.

The team announced on Saturday that the move was made for personal reasons and it marks another chapter in what has been a hugely disappointing 16 months with the team for the former third overall pick.

The Colts traded a first-round pick to the Cleveland Browns in September 2013 to acquire the former Alabama star.

Richardson was inactive for Indianapolis' victory at Denver last week after playing one snap in the playoff opener against Cincinnati.

After being inactive for the divisional playoff win over the Broncos, Richardson said he was preparing as if he would start against the Patriots.

"[Being inactive] will never happen to me again," Richardson said Thursday. "Anybody can quote me, today, because it's never going to happen again."

Richardson lost his starting job to Daniel "Boom" Herron in Week 16 and was the third running back behind Herron and Zurlon Tipton against the Bengals.

In 15 regular-season games this season, Richardson ran for 519 yards and three touchdowns.

Richardson has yet to rush for 100 yards in a game and only has totalled 977 yards in 29 games with the Colts.

Also, reserve offensive tackle Xavier Nixon has been listed as out for the game after missing the team plane.
