The Boston Celtics have ruled out guard Kyrie Irving for Wednesday night's matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves, the team announced.
Irving suffered a scratched cornea in his left eye in a 120-111 loss to the Spurs on New Year's Eve when he and Marco Bellini collided going for a rebound.
"He caught me pretty good," Irving, while wearing sunglasses, told the Boston Globe after the game.
Boston coach Brad Stevens told reporters that Irving would require antibiotics to treat the eye.
Irving, who is averaging 23.1 points and 6.6 assists, returned to action against the Spurs but had been listed as questionable heading into Wednesday's game.
Irving has missed just two games for the Celtics this season.
The Celtics are looking to complete a season sweep against the Timberwolves, having beaten them in Minnesota on December 1.
