Club president claims that banned substance was for pain relief
Olympic and world 100 metres champion Shelly-Ann Fraser has tested positive for a banned substance, according to the president of her athletics club.
Bruce James, president of MVP Track and Field Club, says that Fraser has been withdrawn from competition following the failed test.
James also claims that the substance - oxycodone - was taken to relieve pain and is not a performance enhancer.
He said: "She took pain medication after a dental procedure which is not a performance enhancement drug.
"We are withdrawing her from all competitions until we are able to have a hearing to determine what sanction will apply, or if she will be exonerated.
"Coach (Stephen) Francis is not upset with Shelly-Ann at all. He is actually proud of her for being brave enough to race in Shanghai.
"The IAAF have advised us that the offending substance is oxycodone. Google it. It is not a performance-enhancing drug."
