Champions opt for perfect conditions in Middle East

Swiss defenders Alinghi and its yacht club, the Societe Nautique de Geneve, have revealed that the 33rd America's Cup will take place in the United Arab Emirates for the first time. The defending champions are allowed to select the location and, having won the competition in Spain in 2007, they have selected Ras al-Khaimah after considering various venues in Asia, South America and Europe. Fred Meyer, vice-commodore of the Societe Nautique de Geneve, said: "We are pleased to announce that Ras al-Khaimah, in the United Arab Emirates, will be the host country for the 33rd America's Cup. "This is a venue that offers perfect weather and great sailing conditions for a match in February."
