Sami Zayn says his decision to quit if he fails to win the NXT Championship at Takeover: R Evolution will spur him on to beat Adrian Neville and seize the title.

The Quebec wrestler has vowed to exit WWE on Thursday night if he suffers yet another championship defeat to Neville following a series of near misses.

Zayn told WWE.com that he has no desire to bid farewell but is willing to put his career on the line in order to secure the belt he holds in such high regard.

“I have set the personal stipulation BECAUSE I don’t want to leave,” said Zayn.

“I want to stay and I have no intention of losing that match, but I am at that sink or swim point so I have taken away my safety net.

“I am a very goal-oriented person - I believe that is how you advance in your career and your life – and I want to be NXT Champion before I move to Raw and Smackdown.

“It’s something I have to achieve.”

Personal

On his risky decision, Zayn added: “It’s easy to look from the outside and judge but people haven’t lived my life and are wired differently to me.

“It also boggles my mind how people see following your heart as a negative thing - I’ve gotten to where I am doing that and am the person I am because of doing that.

Adrian has been champion a long time and I think he has become a little cocky.

"I think I can achieve all I want by staying that way.”

NXT Champion Neville has used somewhat nefarious means to keep his strap out of Zayn’s reach in recent months – including feigning injury in the grapplers' most recent clash for the title.

The Newcastle fighter has also accused his rival of being unable to “win the big one” and Zayn says Thursday’s dust-up – which you will be able to see when it is broadcast on Sky Sports 3 on Saturday – has become about slightly more than a championship belt.

“I’d be lying if I said it hadn’t got a little bit personal,” said Zayn, who slapped Neville during a heated face off during last week’s edition of NXT.

“It is about the NXT Championship but there is also a little element of proving a point to Adrian, who has been champion a long time and become, I think, a little cocky.

“It’s sometimes easy to think you’re the man and that you’ve got it all figured out and I think he has got carried away with that and forgotten that I have beat him, can beat him and will beat him.”
