Shooter Noleen Lennon was in fine form for Northumbria, who raced out to a 15-5 lead in the opening quarter and never looked back.
The Lightning have now lost all of their 11 matches this season and they contributed to their latest downfall with a total of 42 turnovers.
Northumbria led 37-18 at half-time and it was a similar story in the second half at Sport Central in Newcastle as the home side's advantage grew to 56-29 through three quarters before they comfortably closed out the victory.
Lennon earned player-of-the-match honours for her dominant day in the circle, Northumbria finishing with a 73 per cent shooting percentage (68/92)
Improvement
"Our attack performance was considerably better than in recent weeks. That was really pleasing," said Northumbria head coach Kate Carpenter, whose team move up a place to sixth in the league table.
"We're still building and refining (our tactics) and will look to continue that in the next three games."
Also on Friday, third-placed Team Bath were held to a 49-49 draw by Hertfordshire Mavericks, while Yorkshire Jets went down 50-49 at home to Manchester Thunder.
The Thunder's eighth win in 11 matches sees them close within a point of league leaders Surrey Storm, who have a game in hand at home to Celtic Dragons on Saturday.
