'The Count' lets slip a 4-1 lead at Frimley Green
Defending champion Ted Hankey has been sent tumbling out of the BDO World Championship after Dave Chisnall staged a remarkable fightback in their quarter-final at Frimley Green.
Having found himself 4-1 down, Chisnall proceeded to win four straight sets - the winner appearing a different player after the mid-match interval.
The 29-year-old from St Helens had struggled with his doubles early on but as the match progressed it was 'The Count' who proved increasingly unable to finish.
"I just did not give up. At the interval I thought I was finished but people told me not to give up," Chisnall told the BDO's official website.
"I missed a few doubles in the first half of the game but just kept plodding on and started to hit the trebles and doubles in the second half of the match.
"My family have not been able to make it down this week because of the weather but I will be making arrangements for them to be here for Saturday's semi-final."
Hankey added: "Without the break I would have won 5-1. I can't believe what happened. After the break Dave came out as a different person, he was unbelievable."
Chisnall will now play Tony O'Shea for a place in the final after the top seed advanced with a 5-1 victory over Robert Wagner.
Last year's beaten finalist was not at his best but always looked too strong for his Norwegian opponent.
