Derek Jeter went two-for-two and Miguel Cabrera blasted a two-run homer as the American League clinched a 5-3 win over the National League in the MLB All-Star Game.
New York Yankees shortstop Jeter, who was making his final appearance in the showpiece event having made a decision to retire at the end of the season, hit a double on the second pitch from NL starter Adam Wainwright.
Jeter also scored a run for the American League at Target Field in Minneapolis, while the game MVP award went to Mike Trout after he doubled, tripled, drove in one run and scored another.
"This makes me feel great. This is what it is all about. You appreciate moments like this. It is something I will remember," Jeter said.

Los Angeles Angels outfielder Trout added: "I am speechless. I can't thank the fans enough for voting me in. It is pretty special just to be a part of this night. These last few days have been a blur."
There was a minor point of controversy when Wainwright appeared to indicate he deliberately pitched into Jeter's hitting zone to give him a moment of glory, but he later backtracked on that.
"Sometimes my humour gets taken the wrong way. It was mis-said. I hope people realize I am not intentionally giving up hits out there," the St Louis Cardinals pitcher said.
"I wanted it to be all for Derek so if anything has taken away from his moment then I sincerely apologise. At no point in my career have I ever gone out and intentionally given up hits."
The result means the team that wins the American League title will have home-field advantage for the World Series.
