Surrey Storm warmed up for next week’s 2014 ZEO Superleague semi-finals with a 69-43 victory over Team Northumbria in front of the Sky Sports cameras.
Storm completed the round robin phase unbeaten, dominating from start to finish against Northumbria to end the regular season with a record of 12 wins and two draws.
Their place in the last four had been assured weeks ago but Surrey were no mood to take their foot off the pedal with an unbeaten season up for grabs ahead of Monday’s visit of Northumbria.
Storm, spearheaded by prolific goal shooter Rachel Dunn, opened up a 23-13 lead at the end of the first period and extended the gap to 14 points at half-time thanks to six interceptions.
With player of the match Hannah Reid and Katy Holland dominating proceedings at the back, Surrey coasted through the second half, leading 56-30 after the third period and sealing a 69-43 win thanks to Katie Harris’ last-gasp score.
Storm will face Hertfordshire Mavericks in next week’s semi-finals knowing two more wins will complete the perfect season.
Storm player-coach Tamsin Greenway told Sky Sports afterwards: "Unbeaten means nothing if we lose next week but the achievement the team has made this season has been fantastic, to be unbeaten all season is amazing."
