Jon Dibben moved into third place at the halfway point of the men's omnium on an otherwise difficult day for Great Britain at the European Track Championships in Guadeloupe.

Dibben, 20, occupies the bronze-medal position after finishing fourth in the scratch race, first in the individual pursuit and then sixth in the elimination race.

He is on 104 points, two behind second-placed Unai Elorriaga of Spain and four adrift of the current leader, Russian Artur Ershov. Italy’s Elia Viviani is also on 104 points.

Elsewhere, Matt Crampton, Callum Skinner, Katy Marchant and Rosie Blount were all knocked out in the first rounds of the men’s and women’s individual sprint competitions.

In the men’s points race, Mark Christian had to settle for 13th place after being docked points for receiving illegal assistance, while Owain Doull was disqualified for a similar offence.

In the women’s scratch race, Ciara Horne and Elinor Barker finished 25th and 28th respectively.

Britain will hope for better fortunes on Saturday’s fourth day of the championships, when Dibben will look to secure a medal in the omnium and Laura Trott begins the defence of her European omnium title.
