Ian Boswell hit out in the day's break to represent Team Sky on stage three at the Tour of Poland.
The American battled to get into the six-man move and worked hard ahead of the finishing circuits around Katowice.
As the stage wore on Boswell looked to follow the acceleration of Marcin Bialoblocki (Polish National Team) but both men were eventually consumed by the peloton as it endeavoured to set up another sprint finish.
Matteo Pelucchi doubled up with another victory, powering through a narrow gap to beat out his rivals in a blanket finish. Giacomo Nizzolo (Trek Factory Racing) and Tom van Asbroeck (LottoNL-Jumbo) completed the podium places on the day.
A tough final ramp ahead of the finish meant that overnight leader Marcel Kittel (Giant-Alpecin) found himself out of position in the final kilometre, eventually having to settle for seventh, yet held on to the yellow jersey of overall leader by six seconds.
Salvatore Puccio again got in the mix, with 13th on the stage allowing him to retain a GC foothold of eighth for the team.
Sergio Henao and Mikel Nieve shook off thoughts of Monday's late crash by finishing high up in the bunch as they continue to position themselves ahead of more selective stages to come.
