Mark Cavendish has been added to the startlist for next week's Tour de Yorkshire.

The British sprint ace, winner of 30 Tour de France stages, is building his way back to fitness after suffering with serious ill health during the second half of the 2018 season.

He showed something of a return to form in the Tour of Turkey earlier this month, finishing third behind in-form Sam Bennett and Fabio Jakobsen in one sprint stage.

Cavendish joins four-time Tour de France winner Chris Froome and old sprinting rival Marcel Kittel in the field for the four-day race, which starts on Thursday in Doncaster.

Britain's former world road race champion Lizzie Deignan is taking part in the women's race, which involves two stages.

Cavendish said: "I'm really excited to heading back to the Tour de Yorkshire along with my Dimension Data for Qhubeka team-mates to race in one of the most beautiful places in the world.

"I really enjoyed the tough but beautiful parcours last year as I rode the race for the first time, and I look forward to seeing what's in store for us in the 2019 edition.

"Over and above the racing though, it always blows my mind to see the incredible support of the fans. With some of my family in Yorkshire, it makes it so special and I can't wait to see them all again."
