Marc Warren was pleased to put himself in position for a weekend charge with a second round 69 at the 144th Open.
The Scotsman made five birdies, one less than his opening round at St Andrews, but his seven under halfway total puts him handily placed going into the final 36 holes.
Warren made three birdies in his first seven holes but was let down by his putter on a couple of occasions and missed a couple of chances to close on leader Danny Willett.
A birdie at the 18th moved him back to seven under and he is now looking forward to one of the biggest weekends of his professional career.
"I'm delighted with that," Warren said. "It was a long morning. I had just started my warm up in the rain and the good news came in it was going to be delayed.
"When we did tee off it was certainly much drier and it was just the wind we had to battle.
"The weekend of the Open at St Andrews does not get much better. The game is in good shape, I'll give it my best and see what happens. I'm relishing the opportunity to play here at the weekend.
"A couple of times today I allowed myself to look at the leaderboard when kind of I joined the lead with a couple other guys, and just trying to soak up that moment, It doesn't happen every day, and like I said, just tried to enjoy my name was there.
"But you know, I let myself do that because that was the first time I've been in that situation.
"If it's tomorrow and Sunday, hopefully my name is in a pretty similar position, I'll be looking at the leaderboard to see who's on it but I won't be looking at the leaderboard to enjoy it."
