The PGA Tour heads to the Southern California coast for this week's Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. This week's tournament, played over the famed courses at La Jolla, will be the 45th to be staged in this part of San Diego. As is tradition, each pro will play one round on each of the two courses over Thursday and Friday, with those making the cut contesting the final 36 holes over the longer and tougher South Course at the weekend. Opened in 1957, the South Course was given a facelift by Rees Jones in 2001 and seven years later hosted the US Open. The courses are laid out on a cliff top close to the Pacific Ocean, thus weather conditions are usually a key factor in the tournament. The tougher South Course, which is almost 700 yards longer than the North, has considerably larger greens and is more bunkered. So who's taking part this week? Ben Crane: A former winner of the tournament who tied-for-eighth in Palm Springs on Sunday. Rickie Fowler: Time for the American young gun to enter the winners' enclosure - following four second-place finishes on the PGA Tour. His eight tournament rounds at La Jolla average an impressive 70.0. Charles Howell: A joint runner-up at Waialae two weeks ago and twice a runner-up in San Diego. Has had six top-20 finishes at Torrey Pines in nine visits. DA Points: Top-10 finishes in each of his last two Torrey Pines' starts and tied-for-sixth at the recent Sony Open in Hawaii. Brandt Snedeker: A brace of top-three finishes in this event and a top-10 performer in last week's Humana Challenge in the deserts of California. Nick Watney: Winner in 2009 who closed last year's account with a brilliant 63 over the South Course to finish in a tie-for-sixth.
