A preview of this week's European Tour event near Vienna

Diamond Country Club near Vienna plays host to this week's Austrian Open for the second time. Opened in 2000, the Atzenbrugg course is a challenging layout dotted with water hazards - particularly on the back nine - and with many coming into play off the tee. It is a traditional parkland course with reasonably flat fairways and greens that are undulating. The field for this week's event is fairly modest, although there is a sprinkling of star names. The tournament will also witness the professional debuts of Paul Cutler and Tom Lewis who represented Great Britain and Ireland at the recent Walker Cup. So who's teeing-up on Thursday: John Daly: The American arrives in Europe with a world ranking outside the top 600. He did, however, tie for ninth in the Canadian Open in July but do not be surprised if he is not involved come the weekend. Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano: A multiple champion on the European Tour, the Spaniard was out of action for six months earlier in the year but posted top-25 finishes at recent tournaments in the Czech Republic and Switzerland. Padraig Harrington: Another out-of-sorts former Major champion who is the biggest name taking part this week. No top-10s since early May but given the weak nature of the field he is capable of being in contention with just an average performance. Joost Luiten: Is one of the few form players competing in Austria. The Dutchman usually plays his best golf on his home continent. Damien McGrane: The experienced Irishman tied for sixth at Diamond Country Club last year when he posted two rounds of 67 and a closing 65. His week was spoilt by a second day 76. Anthony Wall: The consistent Londoner will fancy his chances of a high finish this week. Is long overdue another Tour title.
