US Open champion gets better of major rivals

Lucas Glover fired a second round of 66 to cruise to a five-shot victory at the PGA Grand Slam of Golf in Bermuda. The two-round event features the four major winners from this season and thus saw Glover (US Open champion) up against fellow American Stewart Cink (Open champion), Argentine Angel Cabrera (Masters champion) and YE Yang of Korea (USPGA champion). Glover had led the way overnight with an opening six-under-par 65 and reproduced that kind of form to coast home on day two. He was tied for the lead early on by Cink as both players turned at eight-under. But Cink lost his way on the back nine while Glover eased clear of his rivals with four birdies in his next eight holes. Indeed, Cink could do no better than a one-under-par 70 that saw him overtaken by the Cabrera who was helped by a superb eagle at the seventh. The Argentine eventually signed for a 66 that put him one ahead of Cink on six-under, while Yang finished some way adrift on one-under following a 70. "I got it turned around towards the end of the front nine and played pretty good golf from there," a delighted Glover stated afterwards. "This is such a hard tournament to get into and I would be crazy if I said on January 1 that my goal is to win the Grand Slam because you only have four chances to get here. "All four of us came here wanting to win the Grand Slam. I'm very honoured and very happy that it was me."
