Geordie left sweating on final round

American Frank Lickliter is five clear of the field heading into the final day of six at America's PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament. The 38-year-old from Ohio - a two-time winner on the Tour - shot a Sunday 68 to go into the last day on 28 under par, five clear of Australian Brett Rumford. With 25 cards to be won on Monday, Spaniard Alejandro Canizares, son of ex-Ryder Cup player Jose Maria, is 17th. But former European Open champion Kenneth Ferrie was left to reflect on one bad hole after charging into position in Florida. The amiable Geordie played the first 14 holes of his fifth round in five under par but then double-bogeyed the par-three next and had to be content with a 69 and 11 under aggregate. Ferrie finished the day joint 31st. Fellow Englishman Greg Owen, who lost his place on the American circuit last month, could need a closing 65 after bogeying the 16th and 17th for a level-par 72 that put him down in 75th place.
