Former world number one continues rapid slide down rankings

Northern Ireland's Michael Hoey has cracked the top 100 of the world rankings following his win in the Dunhill Links Championship, while Tiger Woods has dropped out of the top 50 for the first time in nearly 15 years. Hoey climbs from 271st to 98th in the updated standings, which also see former world number one Woods fall to drop to 51st. England's Luke Donald remains world number one ahead of compatriot Lee Westwood, with US Open champion Rory McIlroy - second to Hoey at St Andrews - in third. Kevin Na's victory at the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas moves him up from 76th to 62nd. Woods, who has been hampered by injury this year, will have a chance to stop the rot at the second event of the US PGA Tour's Fall series this week when he plays in the Frys.com Open at CordeValle in northern California.
