JJ Spaun leads Shriners by three but Kelly Kraft closes thanks to hole-in-one

Kelly Kraft had a hole-in-one to emerge as the biggest threat to halfway leader JJ Spaun at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas.
Spaun carded a six-under 65 at TPC Summerlin to reach 11 under and open up a three-shot lead, although Kraft will have to return on Saturday morning to complete the last three holes of his second round.
Kraft was about to play his approach into the par-five 16th when play was suspended because of darkness, but the highlight of his day had come a couple of hours earlier.
The Texan, yet to win on the PGA Tour, leapt up the leaderboard when his choice of a six-iron at the fifth hole proved to be perfect, holing from 174 yards for an ace.
One more birdie helped him reach eight under by the time darkness fell, but that still left him three shots adrift of Spaun, who carded seven birdies on Friday to storm clear of the field.
Spaun started on the 10th and had four birdies on his front nine before dropping a shot at the third, but that sparked further back-to-back birdies and he closed his round with another at the ninth.
"I think we were just real deliberate on our numbers out there," Spaun said.
"It's super swirly, windy. Out here you've got so many undulations around the greens and you've got tight hazards next to the pins and the greens, so it's crucial to get the right number, and we did that well today. That kind of set us up for having a bunch of looks out there."
Robert Garrigus matched Spaun's round of 65 to move up 42 places into third, although his day could have been even better but for a double-bogey at the ninth, his only dropped shots on Friday.
Aaron Baddeley and Patton Kizzire also made big moves with rounds of 66 to move into a tie for fourth on six under.
