An excellent field has arrived at Quail Hollow for this week's Wells Fargo Championship in North Carolina. The 51-year-old venue is one of the most highly respected locations on the calendar. When Rory McIlroy won at Quail Hollow two years ago, he described the course as being of Major Championship standard - which is one of the reasons why many of the world's top golfers opt to test their game at the George Cobb designed layout in Charlotte. The venue, which hosted the Kemper Open 11 times through to 1979, returned to the PGA Tour schedule in 2003 following Tom Fazio's upgrade in the mid-1990s. So who's taking part this week? Rickie Fowler: His eight rounds at the course average exactly 70, and he showed some decent form last week in New Orleans where he tied for 10th. Jim Furyk: On a venue of this quality, the 41-year-old American must never be ruled out. Is a former champion and runner-up at Quail Hollow, plus a brace of other top-10 finishes. Hunter Mahan: Seems to have taken another step up the professional ladder this season with wins in Arizona and Texas, and is now the second highest American in the World Ranking. Although his first four visits to Quail Hollow ended in disappointment, his more recent four appearances have all produced top-25 finishes. Phil Mickelson: Although Lefty has never won here, his consistency is staggering. In eight previous visits he has only once finished lower than 12th, and was runner-up two years ago. Rory McIlroy: Is back in second spot in the World Ranking but will take heart from his brilliant closing 62 at Quail Hollow in 2010 when he won by four shots from Phil Mickelson. Tiger Woods: Back in action at a venue where he emerged victorious in 2007 and will be hoping to put his Masters disappointment behind him.
