David Howell has been named as the fifth and final member of the panel which will select Europe’s captain for the 2016 Ryder Cup.
The Englishman – who played for Europe in their triumphs in 2004 and 2006 – was nominated by the European Tour’s Tournament Committee at their meeting on Tuesday night ahead of the Portugal Masters.
As such, the 39-year-old will now form part of the decision-making process to select the successor to Paul McGinley who led Europe to an impressive success at Gleneagles last month – their sixth win in the last seven matches.
Joining Howell on the five-man panel will be former captains McGinley, Jose Maria Olazabal and Colin Montgomerie and also the chief executive of the European Tour, George O’Grady.
The 2016 match will take place at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Minnesota with Darren Clarke the early favourite to lead the European team.
