Ryder Cup: Rookie pairing Patrick Reed and Jordan Spieth in confident mood

The third match in Friday morning’s Ryder Cup fourballs looks set to provide some early fireworks at Gleneagles.
American captain Tom Watson has paired rookies Patrick Reed and Jordan Spieth together and they will take on Europe’s talisman Ian Poulter and local favourite Stephen Gallacher.
The American duo will certainly not be lacking in confidence if their reaction to the match-up is anything to go by.
"I can't wait to get out there and I couldn't have a better team-mate," said Reed, 24.
"I've played a lot of golf with Jordan, not only as a professional but amateur and junior golf.
"I think it's a comforting factor for us and I think we'll go out and kill it."
Texan Spieth, 21, said: "I don't think you could have picked out two people that we want to play against more.
"I feel our job is to win a point. We can do that with those two guys. We're really going to lower their team morale, I feel like. I think our match is very important."
Captain's choice
Watson said: "They have been playing some practice rounds together and doing very well.
"I told them today: 'I'm going to throw you in the ocean without a life preserver. You're on your own. You get out there and you get it done'.
"Patrick Reed, when he gets it going, he thinks he can beat the world, and I like that attitude in a player.
"These kids are tough kids and they are not dumb.
"They know Ian has that reputation of being a great Ryder Cup player. If they beat him, it's more power to them.”
Poulter is just looking forward to putting on a show alongside Scot Gallacher and feeding off the home support.
"Absolutely buzzing, playing with Stevie G, home course in Scotland, first Ryder Cup. It's going to be amazing with the crowd," he said.
"That's the energy you need in the Ryder Cup. You need to feed from them. You need to enjoy it and embrace it and play with passion."
