Play-off marathon finally ends at ninth extra hole

Jiyai Shin saw off the persistent challenge of Paula Creamer to take the LPGA Tour Kingsmill Championship on Monday. Shin and Creamer had to return to the River Course in Williamsburg after darkness brought an end to their lengthy play-off on Sunday evening. The pair could not be separated after Sunday's eight extra holes but the ninth proved pivotal as Shin quickly claimed her ninth tour title. They had played the 18th hole eight times, but organisers opted to use the 16th instead on Monday and a par for Shin was enough as Creamer could only manage a bogey five. Creamer had a putt for birdie but knocked it more than five foot past the cup and she could not hole the return in front of a couple of hundred fans who turned out early in the morning. Shin was ending a run of 31 appearances without a triumph having last tasted success in the Mizuno Classic in 2010.
