Woods only just makes it into his own Chevron World Challenge
Tiger Woods has fallen to 49 in the latest world rankings so has made it into his own Chevron World Challenge by the skin of his teeth. Only the top 50 in the world are eligible to play in the event that Woods has hosted since its inception in 1999 and which takes place from December 1-4 at Thousand Oaks in California. At the current rate he is plummeting down the rankings list, the long-time former world number one would have had the red-faced task of having to ask for an invitation to his own tournament. But with the cut-off point for entry into the event coming on Tuesday, September 20, Tiger's 49th place ranking means that embarrassing scenario is narrowly avoided. Woods was sidelined for several weeks earlier this year and saw his last hope of qualifying for US golf's end-of-season FedEx Cup playoffs fall away when he missed the cut at the final major of the year, the PGA Championship. Phil Mickelson is also on the slide in the latest rankings table, which is still topped by England's Luke Donald. The left-hander is down to ninth.Big movers
