Australian back amongst the elite after Firestone victory

Adam Scott has returned to the world's top-10 on the back of his victory at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational on Sunday. The Australian claimed his first World Golf Championship title at Firestone by an emphatic four-stroke margin after a hugely composed final round of 65. As a result Scott, who was ranked as high as number three in the world in 2007, has now seen himself rise from 17 to number nine in the latest round of world rankings. Ahead of him it is now an all-European top four again with Rory McIlroy, tied for sixth in Akron, moving above Steve Stricker. Luke Donald and Lee Westwood remain at one and two after finishing joint-second and joint-ninth respectively at Firestone. Tiger Woods has dropped another two places to 30th as he could manage only joint-37th in his first event back from knee and Achilles tendon injuries. Woods falls below Rickie Fowler and Zach Johnson and now has 11 fellow Americans ahead of him.
