Englishman opts to rest injured wrist

Luke Donald has withdrawn from the Honda Classic in order to protect his sore wrist. Donald was forced to concede on the 18th fairway of his third-round match against Ernie Els at last week's WGC-Accenture World Matchplay because of discomfort in his left wrist - the one on which he had surgery last year. After undergoing tests in New York, he was informed the damage was limited to the scar tissue rather than the tendon. The Englishman had hoped to be fit to return straightaway at the Honda Classic, which takes place at Palm Beach Gardens from March 5-8, but has now pulled out as a precaution. Rory McIlroy, Sergio Garcia, Justin Rose and Darren Clarke are in the field, while Els defends the title he won by one from Donald last year.
