Justin Thomas found himself in an awkward situation as his ball came to rest against a large rock towards the end of his second round at the Hero World Challenge.
Thomas was nicely placed on seven under par after making five birdies in an outward 32, but his round began to unravel after his misfortune at the par-five 15th following an errant drive to the right.
The FedExCup champion felt he could not make clean contact with the ball if he attempted to stab it back into play while playing right-handed, so he opted to switch sides and use the back of his mid-iron.
But his first attempt resulted in a "whiff" as he clipped the rock instead of his ball, and the impediment merely rolled back to its original position and left Thomas in the same situation.
Undeterred, Thomas gave it a second go and managed to carve his ball back to the short grass, from where he would go on to make a bogey six which began a run of three consecutive dropped shots, although a birdie at the last salvaged a 70 and lifted him back to five under - seven shots off the halfway lead.
