Forty six places will be available through the 2018 Open Qualifying Series for The 147th Open at Carnoustie, starting at this week’s Emirates Australian Open.

This week's event at The Australian is the first of 15 events across ten countries over the coming months where qualification places will be up for grabs.

The leading three players who finish top 10 and ties in Sydney and who are not already exempt will book their place at Carnoustie, where Jordan Spieth will defend the Claret Jug he won in dramatic fashion at Royal Birkdale.

Three places will be on offer at the Joburg Open next month, while four spots - an increase of two on last year - will be available at the Singapore Open from January 18-21.

The Korea Golf Association's Korea Open is part of the series for the first time this summer, with two places for those inside the top eight and ties, with a further four places from the Gateway to The Open Mizuno Open.

A further three spots will each be up for grabs at the Open de France, the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open and the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open.

On the PGA Tour, The National and the Greenbrier Classic will each have four places available, with the final place on offer coming from the John Deere Classic the week before The Open.
