Golf can be a cruel game when things aren’t going your way, as Ian Poulter found out to his cost during the second round of the Turkish Airlines Open.
Poulter was two off the pace after an opening-round 66 and made a bright start to his second round with two birdies in his first four holes, only to get unstuck at the par-four fifth.
After finding the fairway off the tee, Poulter went dead-aim towards the pin with his approach and saw his effort clatter against the flag.
A near hole-out turned in to disaster straight after as the ball cannoned across the green and rolled in to the water, leaving Poulter having to take a penalty drop on his way to a frustrating bogey-five.
