Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy both hit the pin with their approaches to the 17th at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, but with different end results.

Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlroy were literally matching each other shot for shot as they both struck the flagstick with their approaches to the 17th at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.

The pair were approaching the end of their second rounds at Firestone Country Club when they sent their pin-seeking second shots towards the target, although the results were a stark contrast.

Spieth faced a very tricky approach after pulling his drive into the left rough close to a bunker, which he had to stand in to play his shot. But he made great connection and his ball almost dropped into the cup after clipping the pin, which took the pace off it as he left himself a mere tap-in from inside two feet.

McIlroy split the fairway with another monster drive, but his 72-yard second was loaded with backspin, and his ball struck the full face of the flagstick before spinning back off the front off the putting surface.
