Zac Blair had a nice second round going at The Players Championship until he fell victim to the notorious 17th and ended his hopes of making the halfway cut.
Blair had opened with a four-over 76 at TPC Sawgrass, but he began to repair the damage with a birdie at the 11th - his second - and he added another at the long 16th to get within a shot of the projected cut line.
But one hole later, the young American had plummeted to nine over for the tournament after running up a horrific nine at the short 17th, which included donating three balls to the lake.
Blair's first effort came up short and, after he opted to stay on the tee rather than moving to the drop zone, his third shot landed right by the pin towards the rear of the green but hopped over the back.
To his credit, Blair managed a smile as he teed up a third ball, which he carved to the right of the green and watched in disbelief as another one tumbled off the edge and into a watery grave.
He stubbornly stayed on the teeing ground and made his best swing of the four, and the cheer that erupted when his ball finished on dry land could be heard around the entire course.
